College Credits for Attending

International Thirukkural Conference

We would like to inform you of an excellent opportunity for our High School or College students to utilize Thirukkural learning to obtain college credits. Our youngsters can use the knowledge they gain about Thirukkural by attending International Thirukkural Conference to get three credit hours through a course offered at Montgomery College. As you may have already known, more than 50% of the papers will be presented in English and eminent Thirukkural Scholars will be among the speakers at the conference.

The primary objective of the International Thirukkural Conference is to share the wisdom of its author Thiruvalluvar with our youngsters and people of other cultures. This is the first ever Thirukkural Conference in which the papers to be presented were reviewed and selected by an expert committee. In this conference, presentation of research papers on Thirukkural will have an emphasis on comparison of Thiruvalluvar with other prominent philosophers of the world.

Due to the academic nature of the conference, we approached the local universities and colleges to include the conference as part of a curriculum for a specific course on literature. We are very delighted when Montgomery College came forward to offer a course on Tutorial in Humanities (HP251) and have the International Thirukkural Conference as part of the curriculum. This is the first time an International Conference on Thamizh literature has been included in the syllabus of a course offered at the college level. This unique opportunity should not be missed by eligible students.

We are happy to inform you that Montgomery College is considered as the best community college in United States and in terms of quality and number of graduates produced, this college is very close to University of Maryland, College park campus. Also, Dr. Kamala Edwards who will be teaching this course is the recipient of the  "outstanding teacher award" for 2004.

The details of the course are as follows:
